What is Data Execution Prevention?
Data Execution Prevention (DEP) is a security feature that can help prevent damage to your computer from viruses and other security threats. Harmful programs can try to attack Windows by attempting to run (also known as execute) code from system memory locations reserved for Windows and other authorized programs. These types of attacks can harm your programs and files.

DEP can help protect your computer by monitoring your programs to make sure that they use system memory safely. If DEP notices a program on your computer using memory incorrectly, it closes the program and notifies you.

Ways to improve your computer's performance
Performance Information and Tools lists tasks that can help improve the performance of your computer, and it also shows information about your computer's performance capabilities.
Click to open Performance Information and Tools.
Tasks that can help improve performance
The left pane of Performance Information and Tools includes tasks that can help you improve your computer's performance. This table describes these tasks.
Task
Description
Manage startup programs
Some programs start themselves automatically when you start Windows. Too many of these programs opening at the same time can slow down your computer.
To disable these programs from startup and improve performance, use Windows Defender. For more information, see Stop a program from running automatically when Windows starts.
Adjust visual effects
You can optimize performance by changing how menus and windows appear.
Adjust indexing options
Indexing options can help you find what you're looking for quickly and easily on your computer.
You can search more efficiently by narrowing your search to focus on those files and folders that you commonly use. For more information, see Improve Windows searches using the index: frequently asked questions.
Adjust power settings
Change power-related settings so that your computer resumes from power-saving settings more efficiently, and adjust battery usage for portable computers.
Open Disk Cleanup
This tool deletes unnecessary or temporary files on your hard disk so you can increase the amount of storage space you have. For more information, see Delete files using Disk Cleanup.
Advanced tools
Access advanced system tools, such as Event Viewer, Disk Defragmenter, and System Information, that system administrators and IT professionals often use to solve problems. You can also view notifications about performance-related issues and what to do about them. For example, if Windows detects that a driver is reducing performance, click the notification to learn which driver is causing the problem and view help on how to update the driver. Issues listed at the beginning of the list are impacting the system more than issues listed later in the list.

Program Review: DVD Santa

dvdSanta is an easy to use software for creating DVD Video discs with an easy-to-use one-click user interface. You can convert and compress video files (AVI, WMV, MPG, ASF, RealVideo etc.) to DVD format, create a slide show with background music from pictures, and even transfer tapes directly from digital camcorder to DVD Video over a Firewire cable. The video quality created by dvdSanta is rather good, and converting video files is as easy as it could possibly get. You can choose to compress videos at either NTSC or PAL video standard, in high (720x480/576), medium (352x480/576) or low (352x240/288) resolution, and in full screen (4:3) or wide screen (16:9) aspect ratio. The aspect ratio of the input video is handled correctly, so converting a 16:9 AVI to 16:9 DVD works as expected. Creating photo slide shows has been made easier since v3.40 You can easily add hundreds of pictures to a slide show, and also adjust the settings on all the pictures at once. You can also rotate pictures if necessary. You can record a narration for each photo, which is a very nice feature indeed. You can also add background music files (in MP3, OGG, WAV etc. format) to the slide show and match the length of the slide show to the duration of the music. dvdSanta is also capable of compressing 9GB DVDs on 4GB DVD-R discs, but I'd suggest using a different software for DVD backups. The software homepage has guides available for most of the tasks. Digital video transfers were not tested. You should, however, have at least a 2GHz CPU in order to compress the video in real time. The software includes a built in DVD burner, so you can burn your creations straight away. It is also capable of burning other, pre-authored VIDEO_TS folders and ISO images. dvdSanta now also includes a preview feature and support for multiple languages. This demo version will never expire and it includes all the features of the full version, but it will write a watermark on all encoded video

Go Out Meet Friends Carpool!

Carpooling (also known as car-sharing, ride-sharing, lift-sharing), is the shared use of a car by the driver and one or more passengers, usually for commuting. Carpooling arrangements and schemes involve varying degrees of formality and regularity. Formal carpool projects have been around in a structured form since the mid-1970s.
The Picture below was a Propaganda poster from the
United States government urging carpooling during World War II. If only we had an
easy target like Hitler to blame today's problems.

Canadians’ like their cars as it gives them the sense of freedom. But those these days between economical downfall, oil prices fluctuating like a yo-yo and the increasing contribution to global warming, have drove off into the sun-set like a bad ending to a movie. According to Environment Canada, overall transportation represents the largest single source of Canada’s greenhouse gas emissions, accounting for 27% of the total. We have to become more responsible and realaize that times needs change.
Carpooling is a simple way for individuals to take part in the climate change challenge while saving money, reducing congestion and conserving energy along the way. Carpooling has many benefits. Ride-matching can put you in touch with others who are interested in sharing the daily commute. If you are considering carpooling for the first time, guidelines and tips are available on aviable web sites like
